WHY/HOW:
It seems Tom the turkey didn’t learn his lesson last year. We’re not exactly sure what crimes he committed the past 12 months, but it seems he’s in need of some “legal” intervention once again.
That’s where the Town of Pembroke Park comes in. The Town Commission will preside over a pardoning – similar to what was done a year ago. Yep, seems this is becoming an annual tradition.
“I know that Tom is a good turkey at heart, and I want to do what I can to ensure he has a happy Thanksgiving that is NOT on someone’s dining room table,” said Geoffrey Jacobs, Pembroke Park's Mayor. “We’re not sure if Tom was involved in whatever crime the turkeys President Trump is pardoning this year, but no matter. Tom will get his ‘day in court’.”
Jacobs also said that events like this and the upcoming Holiday Enchanted Forest and Tree Lighting Ceremony are opportunities to bring residents together and strengthen the sense of community.
Later in the day after Tom’s pardoning, the Town will hold its annual Turkey Give-a-Way event (and no, we’re not giving Tom away!)
For the past few years, recognizing the need in our community, the Town of Pembroke Park has provided the Town’s residents with a free a turkey for the Thanksgiving holiday. For the event, individuals must register online at tppfl.govt/turkeygiveaway and fill out the form indicating they are a resident of the Town of Pembroke Park. The give-away will take place at Town Hall, 3150 SW 52 Ave., where those who have pre-registered will participate in a “drive thru” where they receive their turkey and some “fixins”.
“For many their need remains great,” said Jacobs. “As a Town, we are committed to helping our residents who need it the most – it’s just the right thing to do.”
