The Pembroke Park Police Department responded to a report of a vehicle burglary in progress in the area of 4807 SW 41 Street. Upon arrival, officers learned that a victim observed a Black male suspect rummaging through his black Chevrolet Suburban. The victim pursued the suspect on foot to the area of SW 38 Street and SW 48 Avenue, where the suspect fled behind 4720 SW 38 Street, and was last seen jumping a rear fence and heading southbound. The victim reported that a 9mm handgun and assorted valuables, including approximately $4,000 in cash, were stolen from the vehicle.
Officers immediately established a perimeter in the area. The Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) District 1 (West Park) responded to assist, and BSO Aviation and K-9 units were requested. During the search, a nearby homeowner confirmed, based on surveillance video, that the suspect fled southbound from the area.
While conducting perimeter operations, Pembroke Park Police Officers observed a silver Honda traveling westbound on SW 38 Street. Based on the nature of the call and the driver matching the suspect description, officers conducted a traffic stop. The driver, a Black male wearing a silver hoodie and dark pants, was detained.
A show-up identification was performed, and the victim positively identified the driver as one of the suspects involved in the vehicle burglary. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.
An impound inventory of the silver Honda, due to the arrest, revealed a loaded GLOCK handgun with an extended magazine located under the passenger seat and a black ski mask located in the driver’s door compartment. In addition, the suspect was found to be in possession of a large amount of cash. A firearm check confirmed the handgun was not reported stolen and did not match the firearm reported stolen by the victim.
The victim also reported a second suspect, described as significantly taller, who fled the area. Officers conducted a canvass of the surrounding neighborhood; however, no additional suspects or stolen property were located.
The Pembroke Park Police Department is currently investigating nine (9) vehicle burglaries in the same area. Anyone with information related to these incidents, or who believes they may be an additional victim, is encouraged to contact the Pembroke Park Police Department at 954-374-8639 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
