Pembroke Park Police Reminds Residents to Guard Their Bikes and Scooters

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Bicycle theft – it’s usually a crime of convenience.

TBike Graphic 1hat’s because most people don’t think someone would be brazen enough to walk up to their front porch and simply take their bike or scooter. Unfortunately, it happens more than you think. And with the holidays upon us, the chance of finding unattended new bikes out in the open is going to rise.

As we get ready for an influx of seasonal residents, the Pembroke Park Police Department is reminding everyone to be vigilant and on guard, locking up their bikes whenever they are going to be away from them for a period of time. In addition, it’s never a good idea to leave bikes, e-bikes or scooters outside in plain sight where anyone can see them. However, the reality is that for some, keeping their bike, scooter or e-bike outside is the only option.

That’s why the Pembroke Park Police Department is urging everyone to register their bike via Project 529. You can access the registration ONLINE at tppfl.gov/lovemybike

This is a one-stop-shop where you can input your information (name, address, bike/scooter serial number, etc.) so if it is ever stolen, it is part of the database used by law enforcement agencies. The site even provides tips on how to keep your bike/e-bike or scooter secured to help avoid future “unpleasant” situations from happening.

“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,” said Donald Prichard, Captain, Pembroke Park Police Department. “By taking a few easy steps now, you can avoid a huge headache later.”
